PORTRAIT OF CENTENNIAL PARK
canvas with natural residue, performance, 2022
I have walked my dog in Centennial Park every day for 11 years. For this work, along with my dog, I took 2 pieces of fabric for the daily walk, dragging them behind me – establishing my routine as the artistic process.
Just like location holds memory, the resulting canvas pieces hold evidence of their journeys through the park, in the smells, seeds, and stains they picked up along the way. The canvas pieces become a portrait of the park, alive with seeds germinating, and earth drying. They are accompanied by audio recordings taken simultaneously.
The performance survives through the canvas pieces and audio recordings as record.
