I AM HERE, I AM THERE, I AM HERE AND THERE
sand from site, 2024
I am Here, I am There, I am Here and There explores the migrational paths of Aurelia’s family history across waters, including past the shores of Nielsen Park; and Australia as a host to cross-cultural and cross-continental dialogues.
The soundmounds that populate the beach take their physical form from tracing the superimposed soundwaves of recordings taken at Milk Beach (Australia) and her mother’s home Taiwan, where Aurelia was based during the creation of this work.
Created from the sand of Milk Beach, the composite forms represent the converging of her familial journeys on Australia’s shores.
The temporal work exists in dialogue with the site and visitors – constructed by hands, deconstructed by the tide and winds, reconstructed with new hands.
As the soundmounds decayed throughout the day, visitors were invited to reconstruct them with the provided moulds.
